East Sussex Pension Fund (the Fund) is among a record number of signatories to a Global Investor Statement which urges global governments to radically step up their ambition on climate policy - the most ambitious global climate statement from investors to governments in history.
The urgency of taking action has been reinforced by the IPCC’s 6th Assessment Report which anticipates that global warming could exceed 1.5°C by as early as 2040 unless global greenhouse gas emissions are significantly reduced.
The statement outlines key climate policies and actions governments need to urgently undertake to crowd-in green investment, and reduce carbon risk.
Ensure that the 2030 targets in their Nationally Determined Contributions align with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C.
Implement domestic policies and take early action to ensure that their 2030 greenhouse gas emissions are aligned with the goal of keeping global temperature rise to 1.5°C.
Contribute to the reduction in non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions.
Build on the agreed outcomes of COP26.
Strengthen climate disclosures across the financial system.
The Fund is committed to pursuing a climate resilient and prosperous future. Joining the 2022 Global Investor Statement continues the East Sussex Pension Fund’s efforts to manage climate risk and pursue the investment opportunities in the global net-zero emissions transition.
